Start with the mechanism, not the brand name

The most defensible common thread is slower, comfortable breathing used as a relaxation practice. Research protocols differ substantially, so a dramatic branded count is not automatically superior.

Slow breathing

This has the clearest direct bedtime evidence base among the approaches covered here, though objective sleep findings remain uncertain. See the evidence summary.

Diaphragmatic breathing

A 2026 systematic review found highly varied diaphragmatic-breathing protocols across 48 randomized trials and noted important methodological-quality concerns. Treat it as a technique to learn, not a universal cure.

A practical choice

Pick the method you can perform comfortably and consistently. If breathing exercises make you dizzy or uncomfortable, stop rather than forcing the pattern.
